Exceptional DREAMS is a Colorado-based nonprofit created to support children and families navigating educational and community systems that weren’t built for every learner.
As the founder, I've (Ryan Davis) spent a lifetime being a neurodivergent student, an educator in general education and special education classrooms, and at times both a loud and quiet participant of a landscape that isn't always thoughtful or thorough enough to understand the complexity of learning, growth, struggle, and the person behind it all.
Over time, it became clear that many children — especially those who are neurodivergent, gifted, or receiving special education services — often struggle not because of who they are, but because the systems around them are rigid, fragmented, or difficult to navigate. This leads to excuses on both sides and makes it hard to create and hold students to appropriate standards, find the right opportunities, and find where you fit in to society.
Families are frequently asked to advocate alone (if even asked at all), explain repeatedly, or choose between supports that don’t fully reflect their child’s strengths or needs.
Educators are constantly asked to do more. Many don't have the time, resources, or understanding to meet the needs of increasingly diverse classrooms.
Exceptional DREAMS was created to change that experience.
After listening to both educators and families, it is important to get everyone on the same page. This is often difficult without first establish trust and transparency. Being the bridge between two parties allows each group to keep up certain barriers until the time is right to bring them down. It is important to have both an advocate for the student, but also someone who can provide a sense of realism and understanding while acting as a mediator to determine whether a student is on the correct pathway. This includes making sure that services are provided at will and through thoughtful collaboration to achieve a student's potential in any given area.
Exceptional DREAMS is grounded in the belief that children are not broken and do not need to be fixed.
Too often, systems are designed to change children so they fit predetermined expectations rather than adapting environments to meet children where they are. We believe meaningful support begins with understanding the whole child and honoring their strengths, needs, and lived experiences.
From this belief, we approach inclusion through a purpose-based lens. Inclusion is not a one-size-fits-all placement decision. Inclusive environments must be intentionally designed, adequately supported, and responsive to the needs of all students involved.
Purpose-based inclusion centers dignity, safety, and meaningful participation. It asks not only where a student is placed, but how systems, supports, and relationships are structured to help every learner succeed.
Together, we work to strengthen systems rooted in trust, transparency, and high expectations so children are supported for who they are, not asked to change who they are to belong.
Choice, Not Compliance
We don’t believe in forcing children to change who they are. We believe in building systems that support young people with tools, skills, and options so they can choose how they show up in the world in ways that feel right and safe for them.Exceptional DREAMS exists to create space for more thoughtful, inclusive, and collaborative approaches — where children are seen as whole people, families are supported rather than sidelined, and schools and communities can work together in meaningful ways. Together we can shape a future for youth that is appropriate, safe, and realizes every student's potential.
We take a collaborative, strength-based approach to our work.
Exceptional DREAMS:
Centers the individual child and their unique strengths and needs
Partners with families as the experts on their own children
Works alongside schools and educators, not in opposition
Act as a bridge between schools, families, and community
Values flexibility, respect, and relationship-building
Focuses on creating spaces where children feel seen, safe, and capable
Rather than trying to “fix” children, we work to build environments that support them.

Exceptional DREAMS is an early-stage nonprofit organization based in Colorado. As we grow, our programs and supports will continue to evolve in response to the needs of the families and communities we serve. We have big dreams and big ideas but are currently focusing on establishing a sturdy organizational foundation, a robust knowledge and resource base, individual supports by request, and being a strong advocate in the community.
We are committed to growing thoughtfully, intentionally, and in partnership with those we support.
